Brora & Fair Isle

Fair Isle refers to a traditional knitting technique which creates patterns using intricate colour combinations. The design originates from the Shetland Islands, the northernmost part of Scotland, carrying a rich sense of heritage and nostalgia. At Brora, we work to combine heritage craftmanship with modern design using high-quality, natural fibres. Fair Isle is an integral part of Brora’s story, and our well-loved Fair Isles utilise traditional techniques to knit together several seasonal shades into nostalgic geometric designs.

We delight in bringing Fair Isle techniques to the softest natural yarns such as Scottish cashmere, alpaca and wool. The result is beautifully considered knitwear, made to stand the test of time and feel like a little luxury every time you pop them on.

When it comes to creating fresh and exciting Fair Isle designs each season, we delight in reflecting on our own Fair Isle archives. Fair Isle has been part of Brora’s story for decades, giving us many reference points. We also delight in finding traditional patterns that we can pop a Brora spin on, introducing colour and bold patterns whilst maintaining a heritage feel.
