Linen is one of the most Earth-conscious fabrics, needing little irrigation, producing minimal waste, and providing natural soil fertilization. Airy and light, with excellent stretch and recovery, it’s the quintessential summer fabric.

Our linen now has the dual appeal of being a naturally sustainable fabric choice which is produced by Brora and delivered to you by carbon neutral means. We’ve calculated our carbon emissions with BeZero Carbon, reduced our footprint where possible, and offset our essential emissions through funding climate positive projects.

Comprised of fibres of the flax plant, Linen is one of the world’s oldest and strongest textiles as well as being a sustainable fashion choice. It relies only on rainwater to grow and produces just ¼ of the carbon of other crops commonly used for clothing.

All of Brora’s linen designs are created in Europe, with just a short distance to travel before they reach our customers. Each of the linen weaves we produce are unique to us, often being designed in-house and using several shades to create modern and innovative textures.

As a natural, zero waste product, every part of the linen crop is used. While the fibres of the flax plant are used in clothing, anything leftover is used for food, homewares and even the interior of tennis racket handles.

Linen is a natural fabric that offers a simple way to embrace sustainable fashion without compromising on style. Linen is also biodegradable so once your Brora linen piece has been worn and loved for a lifetime it will disintegrate back into the earth with no lasting damage to the environment.

"I’ve always been a fan of linen; it is a fabric that has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. It is a brilliant choice for both interiors and fashion. I love the softness, the way it holds colour, the weaves, the drape and the way it just gets more beautiful with age. The fact that it is also the most environmentally friendly choice is such an added bonus.”

The Lifecycle of our Linen

As a natural, zero waste product, every part of the linen crop is used. While the fibres of the flax plant are used in clothing, anything leftover is used for food, homewares and even the interior of tennis racket handles.

Linen is a natural fabric that offers a simple way to embrace sustainable fashion without compromising on style. Linen is also biodegradable so once your Brora linen piece has been worn and loved for a lifetime it will disintegrate back into the earth with no lasting damage to the environment.

The carbon emissions produced in making one average Brora linen jacket which may be worn for a lifetime is 26.58 kg C02e. This is the equivalent to the emissions produced by charging a smartphone 446 times or four 30-minute commutes to work in a car.

Through our projects we are offsetting and therefore neutralising the carbon emissions produced in the making of our cotton.
