Linen is one of the most earth-conscious fabrics, needing little irrigation, producing minimal waste, and providing natural soil fertilization. Airy and light, with excellent stretch and recovery, it’s the quintessential summer fabric.

Our linen now has the extra appeal of being a naturally sustainable fabric choice, produced by Brora, then delivered to you through carbon neutral means. We’ve calculated our carbon emissions with BeZero Carbon, reduced our footprint where possible, and offset our essential emissions through funding climate-positive projects.

Linen is comprised of fibres harvested from the flax plant. It is a sustainable fashion choice and one of the world’s oldest and strongest textiles. Compared to other crops used to make clothing, it produces just a quarter of the carbon and only relies on rainwater to grow.
All of Brora’s linen clothing are created in Europe, with just a short distance to travel before they reach our customers. The linen weaves are unique to Brora and often have been designed in-house, using several shades to create modern and innovative textures.

The Lifecycle of our Linen

Linen is a natural, zero-waste product, and every part of the crop is utilized. The fibres of the flax plant are used in clothing, while the leftovers are used for food, homewares, and even the interiors of tennis racket handles. Linen is a natural fabric that offers a simple way to embrace sustainable fashion without compromising on style. It is also biodegradable, so once your Brora linen piece has been worn and loved for a lifetime, it will disintegrate back into the earth with no lasting damage to the environment.

The carbon emissions produced in making one average Brora linen jacket which may be worn for a lifetime is 26.58 kg C02e. This is the equivalent to the emissions produced by charging a smartphone 446 times or four 30-minute commutes to work in a car.
Through our projects we are offsetting and therefore neutralising the carbon emissions produced in the making of our cotton.

“I’ve always been a fan of linen. It is a fabric that has been part of my life for as long as I can remember and is a brilliant choice for both interiors and fashion. I love the softness, the way it holds colour, the weaves, the drape, and the way it just gets more beautiful with age. The fact that it is also the most environmentally friendly choice is such an added bonus.”
