We are delighted to announce our wonderfully British collaboration with the fabulously stylish, long-time Brora fan and social media sensation Paula Sutton of @HillHouseVintage.

Shop The Collection

The sumptuous and elegant nine-piece capsule was inspired by Paula’s historical romance with 1930s British country-sporting fashion, and Brora’s love of Paula’s unique style and spirit, shared through her widely followed and wonderfully eccentric all-things-vintage lifestyle blog.

Through her Hill House Vintage blog and Instagram, Paula documents her life-changing move from South London to rural West Norfolk with her husband, three children & picture-perfect pooch. They journal a blossoming love of gardening, and her evolution of interiors taste and personal style, which Brora is very much part of.

“It was a lovely synergy working with Brora, which was so heart-warming when it’s a brand you’ve loved for such a long time. I have a lot of clothes from very few brands. I don’t wear fast-fashion & love to buy British where I can. I love a sense of permanence in everything, for things to be sustainable and long-lasting. This is why I love vintage - my clothing or interiors. I also like the idea there’s a person and a story behind each piece I buy, and that doesn’t always happen.”

“Paula was a dream to work with. Her love of Brora felt deeply authentic & knowing her own style so well, she was very decisive. As a result of having such a clear sense of what she wanted, I worked very closely with my design team to get the detail just right. I knew there was lots that my Brora customer was going to love, yet it was different from what I would naturally have designed for them, with the more vintage element. I’m so proud of this beautiful collection. I can’t wait for it to be seen, worn and enjoyed.”

Question & Answer with Paula Sutton

What was the inspiration behind this collection?

I have been a Brora fan for quite some time, and I love Fair Isle knits and beautiful Winter tweeds. I have a few favourite tweed jackets that I am very fond of. The way I dress everything up is with a vintage flavour. When Victoria approached me, I had this image in mind of a 1930s female golfer with the Tam o’Shanter cap, Fair Isle print and tweed trousers. So, the collection built up around this stylish golfing lady - not that I play golf - but the sports kits were so elegant in those days. It was more real clothes, just done for your sporting pastime. So that was the woman I had in my mind for this collection - very chic just with a G&T in her hand, rather than a golf club...

How would you describe your style?

I love to buy British wherever I can. I have a strong sense of loyalty, so I have a lot of clothing from very few brands. I love to know where everything has come from and the idea that there is a person behind each piece, that doesn’t always happen. I love the story behind clothing.

How long have you worn Brora?

It would have been back since the Notting Hill shop. I worked nearby and couldn’t walk past without going in. I still have a bottle green and saffron yellow stripy jumper from when the shop first opened, so it must be almost 20 years.

How does sustainability fit into your style?

I want my clothes to last forever and most of the things that I have from my fashion days, I still wear and incorporate into everything. So definitely hard-wearing and hard-lasting, as well as being able to mix beautifully with my other pieces. And the only thing that will stop me from wearing something for 20 years is if I can’t get into it!

A tricky question, but what is your favourite piece in the collection?

Gosh...Oooh… I’m going to say the Harris Tweed Tapered Leg Trousers because they go with every single piece. I mean, I love them all, but I’d probably say the trousers, just because these are going to be falling off me before I take them off.

What have you learnt through working with Brora?

I have learnt the necessity of really keeping an eye on the details and that there are many versions of a colour for one particular item. There were times that I could have said ‘that was fine’, but forever paying close attention to detail, Victoria would advise adding a little bit of tipping on the sleeve, explaining whilst it may be so tiny that a customer might not even notice when shopping online, they would appreciate the detail once unpackaged at home.

What has been your favourite part of working with Brora?

It’s just the fact that Victoria is so passionate about what she does, but also she got me straight away. It’s very interesting to find out what somebody’s vision is of you. As soon as I entered Brora’s design studio and described what I wanted, Victoria and the team had their sketches out and we jelled and meshed straight away. It was a lovely synergy, which was so heart-warming, especially when it’s a brand that you’ve loved for such a long time.
