The Finest Cashmere Fibres
From selecting the finest and longest raw cashmere fibres and hand picking colours to create our colour blends that are unique to Brora, to the in-depth design process by our team in the UK. More than anything, what sets Brora cashmere apart, is the craftsmanship that goes into each and every piece, much of which is done by hand at one of the oldest cashmere mills in Scotland.
Every season, we carefully select the highest quality cashmere fibres from the native goat of the Mongolian plateau, carefully removing the coarse hairs to ensure our cashmere is Grade A. We only use the finest and longest fibres, so that you can be sure your garment will be of exceptional quality. For our Mongolian herders, cashmere is their main source of income, and the mill who produces all our cashmere are committed to securing goat herders’ livelihoods, restoring grasslands, and ensuring the wellbeing of the animals.
Hand Made
Many of the steps involved in creating our Scottish cashmere knitwear are carried out by hand, such as the cutting of a neckline and the linking of sleeves to the body of a garment. We also have a collection of hand knitted cashmere designs, which are lovingly created in the homes of keen knitters that live in Scotland. Our range of hand-knitted designs even include baby bootees and cardigans, the most thoughtful present for the newest members of the family.
Investment in Technology
Reducing waste when creating our Scottish cashmere jumpers and cardigans is important to us at Brora. Up to 97% of our manufacturing waste is recycled and used in other products. We also believe in investing in technology to aid us in creating the highest quality garments. Our women’s cashmere tanks and cashmere jumpers are made using one garment machine technology, meaning no precious cashmere yarn is wasted, making these garments seamless, which in turn maximises the longevity of wear.
Proudly Carbon Neutral
Sourcing cashmere from Scotland’s only ‘vertical’ mill means that each part of the manufacturing process takes place within one single location, minimising the movement of our products and reducing airfreight. In 2021, we conducted a full life-cycle carbon assessment for our Brora cashmere, which allowed us work out the carbon footprint of each of our cashmere designs. Every year, we offset our carbon emissions by investing in projects that align with Brora’s ethos.
