Brora x Charlie McCormick

Introducing Chapter Two

Introducing Chapter Two

Charlie’s admiration of the strong colours of the Scottish landscape synchronised with Brora’s modern interpretation of heritage style. Expressed through Fair Isle, colour blocking and timeless style, the colour palette of the collaboration was born.

My home in Orkney has a magical quality to it but the best thing is the garden, paddock and ancient woodland all enclosed in tall stone walls, leading down to the sea. It’s like entering another world.

There were a lot of things on my mood board when I had my first discussion with the Brora design team, think fishing and farming and Fair Isles. I don’t think of myself as a colour designer, but I know what I like and we put together ideas with the Brora designers and it all just chimed. Without realising it a lot of the strong colours are based partly on the Scottish landscape I see all around on the island.

Behind The Knits

Behind The Knits

Gardening is surprisingly fashionable and has masses of trends. A bit like fast fashion I think this is really to be avoided. I just do what I want in the garden and really avoid the ‘fashionable’ plants. My thought process has been the same with Brora; I wanted to create knitwear that I would actually wear. A good piece of knitwear is one that is warm, robust and long-lasting and alpaca and wool both lend themselves perfectly.

When I think about it the most beautiful gardens are the timeless ones and the only interesting ones are where the personality of the gardener comes through. It’s the difference between style and fashion.

I am outside a lot so materials and fibres that are durable and breathable are important. I like the hardiness of wool. A good knit to me is an item that is warm, robust and long-lasting.

We Love Wool

We Love Wool

At Brora, we proudly support the Campaign for Wool and its efforts to raise awareness and education about the benefits of wool. This global community of sheep farmers, retailers, designers, manufacturers and consumers aim to educate about the benefits and versatility of wool, all while supporting those whose livelihoods rely on the wool industry. We love wool for its warmth, texture, softness and superior quality.

“When I learnt that Charlie had a New Zealand upbringing, I knew he’d appreciate natural wools, alpaca and merino. His desire to make the knitwear as good as we possibly could was infectious!”
