Brora X Charlie McCormick

Brora X Charlie McCormick

Charlie McCormick is an award-winning gardener based on the unspoilt and breathtaking island of Rousay in Orkney. Originally hailing from New Zealand, his passion for gardening started with four exceptionally influential grandparents, teaching Charlie “everything I know”.

Charlie has now lived in the UK for nearly as long as he lived in New Zealand. He worked with the great gardener, Bridget Elworthy, before laying down some roots and residing in a small hamlet in West Dorset with his partner, Ben Pentreath. Here, Charlie spent the next 10 years transforming the garden into an incredible haven of flowers and vegetables.

And so, it seems his transformative abilities extend beyond the garden. Our collaboration with Charlie was borne out of a shared desire to bring a breath of fresh air to Brora’s menswear collection. Conversation ensued with Brora friend and consultant, Issy Tennant, an introduction was made, and as Charlie says, “We started chatting and it went from there!”

Charlie curated moodboards inspired by the Highlands and Islands communities and then over a six-month period we designed and developed a 20-piece collection. This range of jumpers and tanks is landing over the course of autumn winter and is knitted from pure new wool, supersoft lambswool, merino and alpaca and is full of character, texture and charm using colour block stripes, unique patterns, Nordic & folk references and herringbone structures.
