This term describes a product, service, or set of operations with no net carbon footprint, which is accomplished either by eliminating emissions or by offsetting them through carbon removal practices. As we work mainly with Scottish cashmere, organic cotton, wool, and linen, Brora already has strong sustainability credentials and even more so now we are a Certified B Corp.
Our assessment of our carbon footprint includes everything, even our indirect emissions that we are responsible for from our suppliers worldwide, meaning that when we say we are carbon neutral, we truly mean it.
Our carbon neutral pledge means that we are committed to investing in key initiatives across the globe that work to support efforts against climate change. We also help to fund projects that help provide education and reduce poverty in developing countries.
Salkhit Wind Farm in Mongolia
The Salkhit Wind Farm is the first grid-connected wind farm in Mongolia, generating renewable energy that helps meet the growing electricity demand within the region. At present, over 91% of energy produced in Mongolia is from fossil fuel combustion. This project is designed to be the first of many to have a significant impact on reducing Mongolia’s carbon emissions. We invest in projects like this help to increase technical knowledge for future development across Mongolia, reduce emissions, and to allow for future renewable development across the country.

Wind Power in Maharashtra
The Wind Power in Maharashtra in India project produces renewable energy from electric generators in a region where fossil fuels would otherwise have been burnt for energy. This enables sustainable economic and environmental development in the area with the project contributing to a 48,590-tonne reduction of carbon dioxide equivalent of Green House Gas per year. The project activity has also led to the creation of an estimated 900 jobs through construction, operation, maintenance, contracts and local road and facility development.
Household Solar Lighting in Zambia
The Household Solar Lighting project in Zambia works to provide solar lighting to families who lack electricity in their homes. Providing a cost-effective and clean lighting solution means that families and children can study, cook and socialise in their own homes, for the first time in some cases. Investment in this project has played a pivotal role in reducing poverty and enhancing educational opportunities within the area. Since its inception in 2021, this initiative has successfully distributed over 600,000 solar lights across Zambia, making a huge difference for many low-income families. Investment in projects like these has meant that the distribution of lights has been able to be subsidised for many families, removing the main obstacle to the widespread adoption of clean technology – its affordability. This project aims to have a significant impact in breaking the poverty cycle within the region.
